Chromebook Self-Insurance Policy
The district self insurance program provides coverage at a very low price.For the 2021-2022 school year, Murray County Schools will require grades 6-12 to buy Chromebook insurance. For grades k-5, insurance is highly recommended but optional. The district self insurance program provides coverage at a very low price. Students who do not purchase insurance are responsible for all repairs, replacement, and costs. . Insurance purchased through the district covers replacement, repairs, shipping and a loaner device. Care of all instructional materials - including Chromebooks -distributed by Murray County Schools is the responsibility of the student to which they are assigned and his/her parent/guardian. This includes costs associated with damages and loss or theft. The purpose of this policy is to enable MCS families to avoid or lessen the significant expense due to accidental damage or loss/theft of school-issued Chromebooks.
The insurance policy provided applies to any Chromebook issued to your child by the Murray County School District, whether it is the originally issued Chromebook, a loaner, or a replacement.
Policies run from September 1, 2021 through May 31, 2022..
Students may purchase insurance after they have already received their device. If the insurance is purchased within 2 weeks of the student receiving the device, the device will not have to be inspected.
If the device is damaged before insurance is purchased, the cost of repair will be the responsibility of the student and his/her parent/guardian.
Insurance coverage costs $15.00, and will cover the Chromebook and Charger.
No refunds on Chromebook insurance will be issued.
If a student moves from the Murray County School District, and returns later in the school year, the policy will still be in effect.
If a student moves schools within the Murray County School District, the policy will be honored at the new school.
Below is a schedule of Deductibles with Insurance
Insurance will only cover the cost to replace one Chromebook. If you have a 2nd Chromebook that is lost or stolen, you will be responsible for paying the full amount to replace. ($250 for Chromebook)
After 4th repair/replacements, the policy is void for the remainder of the school year and parent/guardian is responsible for all damage to the device.
Murray County School District will NOT pay for loss or damage caused by or resulting from the following:
Dishonest, fraudulent, or criminal acts
Theft not accompanied by a police report
Tampering with or unauthorized attempts to repair device
Loss caused by inappropriate electrical use by using an inappropriate charger.

Consequences of Unpaid Chromebook Fines
Seniors-Will not have access to transcript
High School Students will be unable to purchase a parking pass
Extra Curricular Activities (sports, band, chorus, archery, clubs, etc) Students with overdue fines will be ineligible for extracurricular activities.
Other consequences may be determined by the school.
