Murray County School Nutrition Supports Locally Grown Produce

Much has been said about supporting our local farmers, from the health benefits of using locally sourced foods to the boost for our local economy.  While the Murray County School Nutrition Department is no stranger to locally grown produce, we have the pleasure of joining forces again this year with a Murray County farm that can supply apples for the lunchrooms.
Freedom Farms is located on Ballground Road in south Murray County and was discovered through community contact with the department. This is Freedom's fourth year in the commercial apple business,  and it has always been a huge success! The Freeman family planted over 30,000 apple trees many years ago and are now beginning to reap enough apples for the company to make them commercially available. The farm produces other crops such as peaches and hopes to have a retail store eventually.
Murray County School Nutrition Department is happy to support our local economy and looks forward to partnering with our local producers to give our children the best that Murray has to offer.
